Renew your First Aid at Work qualification with a regulated two-day FAW Requalification course, designed for existing workplace first aiders with an eligible FAW certificate.

Our TQUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) Requalification course provides experienced workplace first aiders with the opportunity to renew their qualification while refreshing and updating their practical first aid skills and knowledge.

Delivered over two days, the course revisits the comprehensive First Aid at Work syllabus and assesses the learner's continued ability to respond effectively to workplace injuries, illnesses and medical emergencies.

Training is delivered in accordance with the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) 2025 Guidelines and current UK workplace first aid requirements, with a strong emphasis on practical competence, casualty assessment and confident emergency response.

Who should attend?

This course is specifically designed for existing First Aid at Work-qualified first aiders who need to renew an eligible FAW qualification.

To undertake the shortened two-day requalification course, learners must provide evidence of their previous eligible First Aid at Work certificate.

Your existing FAW qualification should normally still be valid when you undertake requalification. Where a certificate has recently expired, eligibility for the two-day requalification route should be confirmed before booking.

What does the course cover?

The FAW Requalification course refreshes, updates and reassesses the comprehensive skills required of a workplace first aider, including:

• Role and responsibilities of the workplace first aider
• Infection prevention, consent and incident recording
• Scene safety and emergency incident management
• Primary and secondary casualty surveys
• Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Practical use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Management of an unresponsive casualty
• Recovery position and ongoing monitoring
• Choking
• Seizures
• External and life-threatening bleeding
• Wound management and shock
• Minor injuries
• Fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains
• Head and suspected spinal injuries
• Chest injuries
• Burns and scalds
• Eye injuries
• Suspected poisoning
• Anaphylaxis and severe allergic reactions
• Heart attack
• Stroke
• Asthma attacks
• Hypoglycaemic emergencies

As learners attending this course are already experienced workplace first aiders, the programme provides an opportunity to refresh established skills, update previous learning and demonstrate continued practical competence.

Anaphylaxis and emergency adrenaline

Current course content includes the recognition and emergency management of anaphylaxis, including appropriate use of adrenaline.

Training includes practical use of an adrenaline auto-injector (AAI) training device and awareness of current emergency adrenaline options, including adrenaline nasal spray, where appropriate.

Regulated qualification

Successful learners achieve the TQUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF).

This is a regulated qualification, providing independently assessed and nationally recognised evidence of workplace first aid competence.

Course duration

2 days – 12 hours of instructor-led requalification training, excluding breaks.

This shortened route is available to learners who meet the eligibility requirements for First Aid at Work requalification.

Assessment

Learners are assessed through a combination of practical demonstration and knowledge assessment.

Practical assessment is embedded throughout the course. Learners must successfully demonstrate the required first aid competencies and achieve the required knowledge assessment to renew their qualification.

Course delivery

FAW Requalification is available through scheduled courses and can also be delivered on demand for organisations with groups of eligible existing first aiders.

For group bookings, training can usually be delivered at the client's premises, subject to a suitable training space being available for practical and floor-based activities.

Certification

Learners who successfully complete the course and assessment receive the TQUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) certificate, valid for three years.

Annual first aid skills and knowledge refreshers are recommended between formal requalification courses to help workplace first aiders maintain competence and confidence.

Minimum age: 14 years.

Learners should have sufficient command of English to understand the course content and complete the required assessments. If additional support or reasonable adjustments may be required, please contact us before booking so that appropriate arrangements can be considered.

Important – existing FAW qualification required

This is a requalification course and is not suitable for someone undertaking First Aid at Work training for the first time.

Evidence of an eligible existing First Aid at Work qualification must be provided.

If your FAW certificate has already expired, please contact us before booking so that we can confirm whether you remain eligible for the two-day requalification route.

Once an FAW certificate has expired, the individual should not continue to act as a qualified workplace first aider on the strength of that expired certificate while awaiting requalification.

First Aid at Work Requalification in Scotland

This course provides an appropriate route for existing workplace first aiders who need to renew a regulated Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification without repeating the full three-day initial course, provided they meet the applicable requalification requirements.

It is suitable for first aiders working across a wide range of sectors, including construction, manufacturing, engineering, education, hospitality, warehousing, agriculture, forestry, outdoor activities and other workplaces where comprehensive first aid provision is required.
