Emergency First Aid at Work 6 Hour Level 3 (VTQ) - EFAW

Course description

This qualification is ideal for those already working or preparing to work within industry wishing to become an Emergency First Aider in the workplace for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (NI) 1982 and subsequent changes including the 2017 updates.

Who should attend?

This course is designed for people who want to receive training in emergency first aid. It is especially suited for nominated first aiders in smaller, low risk working environments, such as small offices. The course covers first aid protocols for adult casualties only.

Candidates need a basic command of English (defined as Level 2 ). Please be advised that the classroom course has a minimum age requirement of 14. While we are often able to provide support to people who do not have English as a first language, our ability to do so is limited by the time available and the number of people who require assistance. We may be able to make special arrangements if requested in advance. Please contact us if you need any guidance.

How long is an Emergency First Aid at Work course?

The course lasts one day and takes place in the classroom.

What topics are covered in an Emergency First Aid at Work course?

This course provides basic life saving first aid skills and knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations, covering:

  • Adult resuscitation (CPR)*
  • Burns and scalds
  • Choking adult
  • Communication and casualty care
  • Defibrillator prompts and how to respond (theory based)
  • Defibrillator pad placement (theory based)
  • Minor and severe bleeding
  • Role of the first aider (including knowledge of health and safety regulations)
  • Seizures
  • Shock
  • Unresponsive adult

Assessment and certification

Assessment

Continuous observation by the trainer and written assessments.

Certification

Successful candidates receive a with a Certified CPD Statement as well as a ProTrainings Certificate valid for three years.
