Our Emergency Paediatric First Aid course
is a practical, instructor-led one-day (6-hour) course
designed for people who have responsibility for infants and children and need the skills to deal with a paediatric first aid emergency.
The course combines essential knowledge with hands-on practical training, giving learners the confidence to recognise an emergency, provide appropriate first aid and summon further medical assistance when required.
What does the course cover?
The course covers key paediatric first aid emergencies, including:
Responsibilities of a paediatric first aider and assessing an emergency safely
Primary survey and casualty assessment
CPR for infants and children
Safe and effective use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Management of an unresponsive infant or child
Recovery position
Choking in infants and children
Seizures
External bleeding and wound management
Shock
Minor injuries, including minor burns and scalds
Recognition and emergency management of anaphylaxis
Training is highly practical, with learners given the opportunity to practise essential lifesaving skills using appropriate infant and child training equipment.
Who is this course suitable for?
Emergency Paediatric First Aid is suitable for people who work with or have responsibility for babies and children, including teachers, school staff, nursery and early-years staff, childcare workers, childminders, sports and activity staff, youth workers, carers and others who may need to provide emergency first aid to an infant or child.
For workplaces and childcare settings where the full two-day Paediatric First Aid qualification
is required, our 12-hour Paediatric First Aid course should be selected instead.
Regulated qualification
This course is available as a regulated Level 3 Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification, providing independently assessed and nationally recognised certification.
Regulated courses include practical and knowledge assessment in accordance with the requirements of the awarding organisation.
Course duration
1 day – 6 hours of instructor-led training, excluding breaks.
Course delivery
This course is usually delivered on demand at our clients' premises, allowing the training to be tailored to the needs of the organisation and its staff.
On-site group delivery is particularly suitable for schools, nurseries, early-years settings, childcare providers, community organisations and other employers
requiring several members of staff to be trained together.
Certification
Successful learners receive the appropriate course certificate or regulated qualification certificate for the course option booked.
Training is delivered in line with current UK paediatric first aid and resuscitation guidance, with a strong emphasis on practical competence and confident emergency response.
