Choosing the Right Training for Your School

The right training depends on your staff’s responsibilities, pupils’ ages and needs, and the activities your school offers. Different roles may need different courses.

Vital Signs Scotland can help you choose suitable training for teachers, support staff, designated first aiders, early years teams and outdoor educators.

We offer on-site group training across Scotland and selected open courses for individual staff. Depending on the course, blended learning and split sessions can help you fit training around the school timetable.

Anaphylaxis Preparedness for Scottish Schools

Help your team prepare for a severe allergic reaction. Practical training supports staff confidence, familiarity with emergency devices and a coordinated response within your school’s healthcare arrangements.

Two EpiPen adrenaline auto-injectors with green and yellow labels, blue safety caps and orange needle ends.

EpiPen adrenaline auto-injectors

Training for Your School Team

Recognising anaphylaxis and understanding the need for an immediate emergency response.

Practical familiarisation with adrenaline auto-injector trainer devices.

Understanding individual healthcare plans, staff responsibilities and access to emergency medication.

Preparing for incidents in classrooms, dining areas, outdoor activities and school trips.

Auto-Injectors and Nasal Sprays

EpiPen is an adrenaline auto-injector. EURneffy is an adrenaline nasal spray. These are different devices: staff need familiarity with the relevant product and the pupil’s individual healthcare plan.

The existing exemption allowing schools to obtain spare adrenaline auto-injectors without a prescription for a named pupil does not currently extend to adrenaline nasal sprays. A pupil’s prescribed medicine and school-held spare stock are separate arrangements.

As at 2 November 2026, the MHRA is consulting on extending school spare-stock arrangements to adrenaline nasal sprays.

On-Site Training Across Scotland

Bring training to your school, nursery or campus. Group bookings start from four learners, with maximum numbers depending on the course.

Where the course permits, we can arrange split sessions of at least two hours, including delivery across mornings or afternoons. Ask about in-service days and joint bookings with neighbouring schools.

Open Courses & Flexible Learning

Need training for one or two staff members? Selected open courses are available at our Bathgate training venue, with other locations by arrangement for groups.

Selected courses also offer blended learning or live distance learning. We will explain which parts can be completed remotely and which require practical attendance.
