Classroom Blended Part 2
The Tourniquets and Haemostatic Dressings Level 2 (VTQ)™ course provides practical training in the management of catastrophic, life-threatening bleeding, with particular emphasis on the correct application of commercial and improvised tourniquets, haemostatic dressings and trauma dressings.
Catastrophic haemorrhage can become life-threatening within minutes. This specialist course develops the practical skills and confidence required to recognise severe bleeding and use appropriate bleeding-control equipment effectively.
This is the classroom practical component of a blended training programme, allowing learners to put the knowledge gained during their prerequisite online training into practice through hands-on instruction and practical exercises.

Before attending this Classroom Blended Part 2, learners must first complete the ProTrainings online course: Tourniquets, Haemostatic Dressings and using BSi Critical Injury Kits.

The online course provides the underpinning knowledge required before progressing to the practical classroom component delivered by Vital Signs Scotland.

The online component must be successfully completed before attending the Classroom Blended Part 2 session.
Tourniquet Training
Learners are introduced to the principles and practical application of a range of tourniquets, including:
- CAT
- SOFT T
- SAM XT
- RapidStop
- MAT
- STAT
- TourniKEY
- Improvised tourniquets
The emphasis is on understanding when and how tourniquets are used and developing confidence in their correct practical application.
Haemostatic & Trauma Dressings
The course also covers the use of haemostatic agents and dressings for controlling severe bleeding, including:
- Celox
- WoundClot
- QuikClot
- Axiostat
- Other haemostatic dressings and powders
- Trauma dressings
Training also includes the use of BSi Critical Injury Packs, providing learners with practical experience of equipment designed for responding to serious bleeding emergencies.
